Meet Rebecca: A HACC Student who Came Back

“It’s taken me 10 years to find my true calling and seek to continue my education.”

For many students, the path to and through college is hardly straightforward or easy. That’s how it was for Rebecca Wright, a student at HACC’s Harrisburg Campus who studies biology.

Rebecca said, “I started at HACC after I graduated high school in 2006. I went for two semesters, got most of my general education classes done, however, I had trouble sticking with a major I felt good about.”

It took a decade before Rebecca was ready to try again.

“I chose to continue at HACC for the affordability, flexibility (as I am also a single mom now),
and transfer options in-state,” she said. Since coming back to HACC, Rebecca said, “The diversity of the student base has really surprised me, in a good way.”

Rebecca noted that her love for learning was not extinguished even though she was not formally enrolled. “I always love learning, and even though I haven’t been in school for a long time I continue my individual research on topics I am passionate about. I especially love exploring taboo topics and indigenous cultures.”
