Meet Tabitha: Theatre Student and Playwright

“HACC challenges me and encourages me to go above and beyond.”

Tabitha Lewis admits, “I spent most of my childhood hating school because I was bored in it.”

As an adult, Tabitha is discovering that HACC offers the challenges and opportunities to hold her interest. “The coursework here is as demanding and educational as four-year schools,” she said. “I have rediscovered my love for learning and a healthy sort of ambition.”

Tabitha studies theatre at HACC’s Harrisburg Campus and aspires to work as a playwright and director after getting her Associate in Fine Arts (AFA). She is inspired by theatre professor Dave Olmsted, who she said “manages to take his work very seriously while also having fun with it.”

One of Tabitha’s one-act plays will premiere at HACC’s 2019 New Works Festival, which recognizes the creative, sometimes untapped talent of playwrights in Central Pennsylvania. Submissions were reviewed by a jury made up of directors, actors, designers, technicians and other playwrights.
