Through hands-on instruction, our highly skilled instructors teach you how to perform the vital tests that primary care providers depend on to diagnose and treat patients. You also will be prepared to take the national entry-level credentialing exam that is administered by certifying agencies of the profession. You receive training in basic lab skills in our on-campus student laboratory and advanced clinical training in a local hospital laboratory.

By the time you graduate from our program, you’ll have the skills to:  

• Work effectively with other hospital personnel
• Demonstrate the expected MLT entry-level skillset prescribed by professional laboratory organizations
• Successfully pass the national entry-level credentialing examination administered by certifying agencies of the profession
• Recognize how specialized training fits into the health care delivery system

Our program is selective, which means there are additional entrance requirements needed beyond your acceptance into HACC. Before entering into the clinical component of the program, you must complete certain requirements which may include payment. They include, but are not limited to:

• Background checks (Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, FBI fingerprint check and the Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check)
• Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification
• Drug and alcohol screens
• Physical examination and immunizations

This program is designed to lead you directly into the workforce. Should you choose to transfer to a 4-year school, HACC has negotiated agreements with some four-year schools that allow you to transfer with no loss of credits and complete a bachelor’s degree. We offer classes in the spring, summer and fall, and future students may apply online to the College anytime. Though, the application for enrollment into the clinical component opens each June and clinical coursework begins each spring term.  In addition, students must be aware that even though this program begins in the Fall semester, they begin their courses for this major during the Summer term.

When enrolling into this program, you must apply to the non-clinical component of the program first. Therefore, please use the program code 3486 when completing your application to ensure that you apply to the correct program.
